Perhaps you know that your skin needs something different but have no idea where to start. Maybe you have never had a professional facial, feel overwhelmed by treatment names or worry that a consultation will become a sales pitch.

Our Skin Analysis appointment is designed to remove that uncertainty. It is a relaxed, informative consultation centred on understanding your skin, discussing what matters to you and giving you a clear plan to take away. You do not need to be a skincare expert and you will not be expected to commit to a treatment course on the day.

Here is what you can expect when you visit The Skin Edit Company in Ipswich.

Before your appointment

When booking, make sure we know about any relevant allergies, medication, pregnancy, breastfeeding, active medical care or diagnosed skin conditions. This helps us keep the consultation appropriate and identify whether any treatment recommendations may need to be adapted or delayed.

If possible, attend without heavy makeup. If you are wearing makeup, do not worry — we can advise you when booking and prepare the skin as needed before imaging.

It can also be helpful to bring or photograph the products you currently use. Include items you apply regularly as well as occasional acids, retinoids, masks or prescription products. This gives us a more accurate understanding of your complete routine.

1

We talk about you, not just your skin

Your consultation begins with a conversation. We will ask what you would like to improve, what you have already tried and how your skin behaves from day to day. We may discuss sensitivity, breakouts, pigmentation, dryness, oiliness, texture or the visible signs of ageing — but only the concerns that actually matter to you.

We also consider factors that can influence the advice we give, including lifestyle, current homecare, previous reactions, treatment history and the level of maintenance you realistically want.

This stage is important because an image cannot tell us how your skin feels, what frustrates you most or what will fit comfortably into your life. Our team brings together specialist knowledge across skin health, aesthetics and laser — you can read more about us on our Meet the Team page.

2

Your digital skin scan

We then capture detailed images of your skin using our professional analysis technology. The scan allows us to examine your complexion under controlled conditions and consider areas that may be less obvious in everyday lighting. Depending on your skin, this may support our assessment of dehydration, congestion, oil distribution, pigmentation, redness, pores, texture and fine lines.

The OBSERV 520x uses multiple light modes to help us view different characteristics of the skin. The example image below shows how surface texture, visible redness, pigmentation patterns and oil distribution can appear under different imaging conditions.

The process is straightforward and non-invasive. It does not hurt, involve needles or treat the skin. It simply gives us clearer visual information to use during your consultation.

Please note: Digital skin analysis is not a medical diagnosis. Any suspicious lesion, persistent rash or other medical concern should be assessed by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
3

We explain what we can see

Once your images have been taken, we review them with you. This is often the most valuable part of the appointment. Instead of simply being told that a product or facial is "good for your skin", you can understand which concerns we have identified and why a particular recommendation may be relevant.

We will explain the findings in clear language and answer your questions. There is no expectation that you should already know the difference between every ingredient, treatment or skin concern — that is precisely why you have come for professional guidance.

4

We decide what to prioritise

It is common for a scan to highlight more than one possible area of focus. That does not mean everything needs to be tackled at once. Together, we will consider what bothers you most, what your skin appears to need first and what can realistically be achieved within your preferred timeframe and budget.

For example, it may be sensible to strengthen and hydrate the skin before moving on to more active treatment for texture or pigmentation. Another client may already have a consistent routine and be ready for a targeted course of professional treatments from our facial treatment menu.

The order matters. A good plan is not simply a list of services — it is a sequence of considered next steps.

5

Your personalised plan

Following your consultation, you will receive a personalised skin plan based on your assessment and goals. This may cover:

Your main skin priorities
Recommended professional treatments
The suggested order and timing of those treatments
Suitable homecare advice
Products or habits worth reviewing
Short-term steps and longer-term options

Your plan is a recommendation, not an obligation. You are welcome to go away, read through it and decide what feels right for you.

Will I be expected to buy products or book a course?

No. We will recommend what we genuinely believe could support your skin, but there is no obligation to purchase products or book treatment. You may choose to begin with one or two homecare changes, book a single facial, work towards a treatment course or simply use the appointment to understand your skin better. The decision remains yours.

Our aim is for you to leave feeling clearer and more confident — not pressured.

What happens after the appointment?

If you decide to proceed, your plan gives both you and your therapist a clear point of reference. It helps keep future appointments connected to the same goals instead of selecting treatments at random.

Skin changes over time, so recommendations can also be reviewed as your needs, lifestyle or priorities change. Where useful, future images may provide a visual comparison and help us assess whether the plan should continue or be adjusted.

If you have any questions before or after your appointment, our team is always happy to help — you can reach us via our contact page.

Who is the appointment for?

You may find a professional skin analysis especially useful if:

You have never known where to begin with professional skincare
You feel intimidated by facials or treatment terminology
Your existing products no longer seem to suit you
You want advice before investing in a treatment course
You have several concerns and need help deciding which comes first
You would like recommendations tailored to your skin and budget
You want a baseline from which to monitor your skin journey

You can attend whether you are completely new to skincare or already have an established routine.
